Iñaki Peña

Director of Entrepreneurship Department at the Orkestra-Basque Institute of Competitiveness. Dr. Peña is also an Associate Professor of Management at Universidad de Deusto (Spain). He holds a PhD and a Master of Science degree from Purdue University (USA), and an undergraduate degree in Management from the Universidad de Deusto (Spain).

In the past, Dr. Peña has been a faculty member of the Microeconomics of Competitiveness (MoC) course developed by the Institute of Strategy and Competitiveness of Harvard University and offered by the Basque Institute of Competitiveness in the Basque Country. He joined Universidad de Deusto in 1999 where he teaches Entrepreneurship courses in the PhD program, and Business Valuation, Cash Management and International Finance courses in both MBA and Undergraduate programs.  He has advised more than half a dozen of doctoral dissertation theses at Universidad de Deusto and the Basque Institute of Competitiveness, and is a regular Visiting Professor at Marquette University (Milwaukee, USA), Adolfo Ibáñez School of Management (Miami, USA), Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Cali, Colombia) and ICADE (Madrid, Spain).

Dr. Peña has published numerous articles and book chapters on entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional competitiveness.  Some of his most recent articles have been published in international journals such as Small Business Economics, International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, Journal of Intellectual Capital, and Journal of Knowledge Management. Some of his book chapters  has been published by well-known editors such as Edward Elgar, Eds Group Inc., ...

Dr. Peña collaborates as a referee for scholarly recognized journals like Journal of Small Business Management, International Journal of Small Business, etc. He has presented his research work at several entrepreneurship related national and international conferences (Babson Kauffamn Entrepreneurship Research Conference BKERC, Research on Entrepreneurship RENT, European Nertwok on Industrial Policy EUNIP, …). 

Dr. Peña is a member of the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor GEM international research consortium and the team leader of the GEM Basque research group. He also has participated in international and national research projects granted by the European Commission and different  Ministries from Spain and the Basque Government.  Some of the most recent research projects by the Entrepreneurship department of the Basque Institute of Competitiveness has been developed along with the partnership of the Max Planck Institute of Economics and Entrepreneurship.
